Plexr / Plasma Eyes

Non-surgical double eyelids with plasma: corrects droopy eyelids and removes skin tags, no stitches

Plasma ionises the air at the tip of the device so the surface skin sublimates in tiny points, causing excess eyelid skin to contract and tighten without an incision. Used for droopy eyelids, creating an eyelid crease, lines around the eyes and removing skin tags. Scabs clear in 4–7 days.

How plasma works

Plexr-type devices create a tiny plasma arc between the tip and the skin without touching it. Energy at about 6,500 kelvin makes the outermost skin layer sublimate, turning from solid to gas instantly, while the skin temperature stays at only about 60°C, so heat does not spread deeper to damage the underlying layers. There is no bleeding and no stitching. The tiny sublimated points contract towards one another, tightening the excess eyelid skin. Because it is not a laser, it does not target skin pigment and can be used on all skin tones.

What it can address

  • Upper eyelids that droop or sag over the eyelid crease
  • Creating a double eyelid crease, or correcting uneven creases, without an incision
  • Lines on the upper eyelid, under the eyes and at the outer corners
  • Skin tags, warts, dermatosis papulosa nigra, superficial moles, milia and superficial freckles (an alternative to CO2 laser in some cases)
  • Scars and shallow pitted scars, as the doctor assesses

The procedure day

Assessment and markingThe doctor measures the amount of excess skin, the desired crease position, and checks symmetry with the eyes open and closed
Topical anaesthetic for 30–45 minutesAnaesthetic cream on the eyelids, with a small additional injection in some cases
Plasma pointsThe doctor places points in rows, leaving gaps so the skin between them contracts together. Takes 15–30 minutes
Cream applied and homeSmall brown dots remain. Apply the cream the doctor provides; no dressing needed

Recovery

Days 1–3SwellingEyelid swelling peaks on the morning of day 2; some people's eyes look slightly narrowed. Use cold compresses and sleep with your head raised
Days 4–7Scabs fall offThe brown dots dry and fall off on their own. Do not pick. Gentle face washing is fine from day 2
Weeks 2–4Pink marks fadeThe new pale-pink skin gradually returns to its normal colour. Always wear sunscreen
6–8 weeksAssessment and next sessionSkin continues to contract for up to 2 months. The doctor assesses whether a second or third session is needed
Not suitable, or needs special consideration, if you

Are pregnant, have a pacemaker, have a history of keloids, have severely sensitive skin, have an eye or eyelid infection, have taken oral retinoids within 6 months, or have drooping caused by a weak eyelid-lifting muscle (ptosis), which plasma cannot correct and which needs an ophthalmologist or surgeon. If you are prone to post-inflammatory darkening, strict sun avoidance is essential

Frequently Asked Questions

Does plasma double eyelid treatment hurt?

After 30–45 minutes of topical anaesthetic, most people feel small, sharp pinpricks of heat and tolerate it well. There is mild stinging for a few hours afterwards.

How many sessions are needed?

Generally 1–3 sessions, 6–8 weeks apart. Plasma reduces excess skin by about 1–2 millimetres per session. Mild drooping may be satisfactory after the first session; if there is a lot of excess skin or substantial eyelid fat, surgery gives a clearer result. The doctor assesses every time.

Will there be scarring or dark marks?

In most cases the skin heals without scarring when scabs are left alone and sun protection is good. Temporary darkening can occur in darker skin or in people exposed to sun during recovery, and usually fades within 1–3 months.

When can I wear make-up and go back to work?

You can work from the next day, but the eyelids will be swollen with scabbed dots for 4–7 days. Avoid cosmetics on the eyelids until all the scabs have fallen off.

How long do results last?

The skin that has been reduced does not return, but the skin continues to age. Most people find it lasts 2–3 years before considering a top-up.
