Follicle-Cell Injection

Nanograft PureCells™: your own follicle cells to treat thinning hair, no shaving required

Just three 4 mm scalp samples are taken from the back of the head, processed into micrografts with the Regenera Activa system and injected back into thinning areas within a single hour. No shaving, no downtime, suited to diffuse thinning where follicles are still present.

How PureCells™ works

The scalp at the back of the head is rich in hormone-resistant follicles and follicle progenitor cells. PureCells™ takes three 4 mm tissue samples with the same punch used for skin biopsies and processes them in the Regenera Activa device, which breaks the tissue down mechanically (without enzymes or culturing) into particles smaller than 80 microns containing the skin's own follicle cells, progenitor cells and growth factors. These are then injected across the thinning area. The aim is to help miniaturised follicles produce thicker, longer hairs again, not to create new follicles where none remain. It is done in the clinic in about 1 hour, and because it is your own tissue there is no allergic reaction to a foreign substance.

Who it suits

Diffuse thinning across the scalp

Hairs have become finer and the scalp shows through when wet or under light, but there are no bald patches yet

Female-pattern thinning with a widening parting

A common pattern in women aged 30–50, which is usually not suited to graft transplantation

Hair loss after childbirth or illness

When the doctor has confirmed the main cause has resolved but the hair is slow to return

Men with early crown thinning

Hair is still present but thinning; used to slow the process and add thickness alongside medication

Patients having FUE or DHI

Injected on the same day to care for the existing hair around the transplanted area and support the new grafts

Anyone who cannot take downtime or shave

You can go straight back to work; the three small wounds at the back of the head are hidden under the hair

Procedure (about 60–90 minutes)

Scalp examination and photographsDensity is recorded under magnification before the procedure for comparison at 6 and 12 months
Local anaesthetic at the back of the headAt three small points only
Three 4 mm tissue samples takenUsing a biopsy punch, closed with a plaster, with no stitches or a single stitch
Micrograft extractionThe Regenera Activa device breaks down and filters the tissue into an injectable suspension, taking about 10–15 minutes
Injection into the thinning areaShallow injections spread across the planned area after topical anaesthetic; you may feel slight pressure
Go home immediatelyAvoid washing your hair for 24 hours, then carry on as normal

What to expect

Week 1Donor wounds closeMild redness or tenderness at the injection points may occur and settles within 2–3 days
Months 1–2Less sheddingMany people notice less hair loss when washing, and fine new hairs appearing in the thinning area
Months 3–6Hair becomes thickerHairs that had become fine gradually thicken and lengthen, and density improves steadily
Months 6–12AssessmentMagnified images are compared with those taken before. Most people have a single session and can consider repeating it after 1–2 years if the doctor considers it appropriate
What PureCells™ cannot do

It cannot grow hair in areas that are already completely bald, because there are no follicles to stimulate. It is not a way to redesign the hairline or reduce a wide forehead, which calls for graft transplantation with FUE or DHI. Response varies from person to person, and anyone whose hair loss is caused by thyroid disorders, low iron or autoimmune conditions should have the cause treated first. It is not suitable for anyone with active scalp inflammation, a bleeding disorder or during pregnancy

Frequently Asked Questions

How is PureCells™ different from PRP?

PRP uses platelets from your own blood, which contain growth factors but no follicle cells. PureCells™ uses scalp tissue containing follicle cells and skin progenitor cells directly. PRP is usually given as a course every 1–2 months, whereas PureCells™ is mostly a single session once a year or less often.

How many months until I see results?

Most people notice less shedding within 1–2 months and clearly thicker hair in months 3–6. The full result is assessed at around 6–12 months and varies from person to person.

Are the wounds at the back of the head visible?

They are three small round wounds of 4 mm hidden under the hair. Most heal to tiny faint marks that cannot be seen once the hair covers them.

Can men with baldness have it?

If hair is still present but thinning, yes, and it should be combined with medication. If the area is already completely bald, PureCells™ will not help; a FUE or DHI transplant is recommended instead, or in combination.
